A True Crime Story of Murder and Redemption… A Must Read!
"Danger Road" reads like a John Grisham novel
Danger Road is a true crime story of murder and redemption that recounts Contini’s defense of Gil Fernandez, Jr.. Fernandez was a former Miami-Dade cop, Mr. Florida-winning body-builder, kick boxiing champion and black belt karate instructor who was one of two men charged in 1990 with a drug-related triple homicide that occurred in 1983. If that wasn’t enough, Fernandez, owner of the infamous Apollo gym, is alleged to have run a crew of body builders who doubled as extortionary debt collectors and muscle for the mob. Several of the group were found murdered because they allegedly knew too much about the defendants. They were killed two at a time, with the killer leaving no forensics – "the signature of a policeman," according to law enforcement. Detectives alleged that officer Fernandez, a reputed soldier for the mob, was systematically eliminating witnesses against him. Several months before his arrest, Fernandez became a born-again Christian and His redemption soon played a prominent part in both Gil Fernandezes life as well as John Contini’s.
