Orlando, Fla. – We are proud to announce that Kairos Prison Ministry – South Africa will be celebrating its 10th Anniversary on the weekend of December 6, 2008 at Drakenstein Prison in South Africa. Drakenstein is a low-security prison near Paarl in the valley of the Dwars River in the Western Cape of South Africa. The prison is famous for being the prison where Nelson Mandela was incarcerated the last three of the 27 years he spent in prison for campaigning against apartheid.

Kairos Prison Ministry International, Inc continues to share Christ's love and forgiveness with inmates and their families in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Honduras, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Australia and South Africa. We are currently working with new volunteer communities in Peru and Uruguay.

Kairos, in its 32 years, has developed three ministry programs: Kairos Inside for adult men and women; Kairos Outside for the female family members/friends of the incarcerated and Kairos Torch, an inside program for youthful offenders. Through these programs, Kairos volunteers have shared Christ's love and forgiveness with more than 200,000 inmates, inmate families and institutional professionals. Kairos currently ministers through approximately 25,000 volunteers in 31 states and 8 countries.

But, we need your help!

Kairos is seeking prayer partners, new volunteers and financial donors to continue to share Christ's presence in prison. Presently, there are approximately 600 prisons in the USA which constitute our future mission fields. About 90 % of all inmates will be released one day to return to our communities and the annual cost of housing an inmate exceeds $ 25,000. This is a significant issue in today's world and presents a mission so difficult it can only be accomplished by dedicated prayerful Christian communities working together and with God's help.

Watching Kairos Prison Ministry volunteers share Christ in prison is like having a front row seat at a miracle. Please help us serve Jesus Christ. (I was in prison and you visited me…..Matthew 25:36).
