During the 12 events we hosted not long ago, 261 teammates joined us to minister to 782 “at risk” juveniles, and their family members. Of the people who attended an ROC event, 610, or right at 70%, made a faith decision. I am so excited about how far we have come in such a short time. I still remember our first program with just 18 kids and one judge in attendance.
This year, hundreds of young people and their families heard the good news of Jesus Christ and made a choice to let Him take charge of their lives. Many of those made an equally
important decision to ask for a mentor to disciple them as they explore what t means to trust Jesus. Our Website is up and running and has provided valuable contact information for the new regional cell sites. We continue to add new Ring of Champion sites and interest is growing daily. We have been blessed with new foundation grant support this year, in addition to the continued blessings from the foundations that have supported our efforts in the past. We were extremely successful this year in developing new community partners that donated their services, which helped substantially reduce our event cost. We were also successful in gaining several new platform speakers that were able to cross over to other arms of the ministry, further reducing event costs.
Looking back, I think one of the most significant events that really framed our work last year was when Miss Crystal Wynn and her mentor Ms. Linda Condit traveled to Houston and spoke at the kickoff banquet. Linda, a very busy court reporter from Corpus Christi, shared how she fought Gods urgings to become a ROC mentor because of how busy her schedule was. T en she went on to share how rewarding it was to watch the transformation in her mentees lives, and how she felt so blessed for the time she had with them. Crystal shared how failing school and becoming physically abusive to others had resulted in her being removed from home. She said she first met Linda while she was incarcerated and went on to say that after 18 months she was now back in school and at home, and on the A/B honor roll. In closing she shared that she would be the first person in her family to graduate from high school. As I watched Linda and Crystal walk back to their table I wondered how many “Crystals” were still waiting for that special touch.
I am very excited that God has used Ring of Champions to help restore lives this year. I am even more excited about His plans for years to come.
