REMSEN, Iowa –Mark and Cheryl Juhl of rural Plymouth County are hosting a fundraiser at their farm July 13 to benefit The Church of the Damascus Road, a prison congregation within the walls of the men's prisons at Fort Dodge and Rockwell City, Iowa.
Entertainment at the fundraiser from 1 to 9:30 p.m. includes Nashville singer/songwriter Terry Smith, singer Elaine Peacock from Elk Point, S.D., singer Wayne Longtin Sr. of Litchfield, Minn., and singer Ervin Pickhinke of Sioux City. Also performing are Music Illusions, Tom and Patty Mullally of Le Mars and Lee Muller of Denison.
Donations frrom area businesses are being gathered to cover the expenses, which will allow all gate and food sales to benefit the church. The Pymouth County branch of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans is also providing supplemental funding.
Along with prison ministry, the church has a program giving after-care to individuals once they are released from prison.
